From The Nashville City Paper:
“Safe Haven is a unique organization that has come up with a simple formula for assisting homeless families to get back on their feet,” Shulman said. “With a success rate in the 80 percent range, Safe Haven is making remarkable strides in the effort to deal with the issue of homelessness.
“It is an honor to serve as President of the Board this year.”
Safe Haven Family Shelter is the only organization that houses homeless families together while giving them financial, social and faith-based support while they get back on their feet and into homes of their own.
As board president, Shulman will be the chief decision maker for Safe Haven and in charge of overseeing the organization, said Safehaven’s public relations director Stephanie H. Tinnell.
“He’s a sweetheart. He’s a great guy to be in that position. He’s very understanding. He understands the needs we have here,” Tinnell said. I really feel he’ll be a great asset to the organization and I feel he’ll lead us in the right direction to help us grow as an organization.
Shulman, a native of Johnson City, moved to Nashville to attend Vanderbilt University, where he earned both a bachelor degree and a J.D. degree. While in college he worked in Washington D.C. for then-Congressman Al Gore, Jr. and after graduating he served as an assistant commissioner at the bureau of TennCare as well as the executive assistant to the Commissioner of Finance and Administration.

We view ourselves at the Center for Nonprofit Management as a connector in many ways. We connect our members with consultants, trainers, benefit plans, other nonprofits and ultimately, we connect our members with resources that will make them stronger. In the new age of communication, CNM realized that a blog could help us achieve that connector status at an even higher level. So today, CNM welcomes you to a new resource that will give you the ability to connect with other nonprofits and with the Center.
The Center sees the blog as an opportunity for us to post information on nonprofit community events, answers to your questions, timely articles, and area nonprofit opportunities. In addition, we plan to have guest bloggers that will include our consultants and trainers. You will be hearing from me, Lewis Lavine and other CNM staff members as well.
However, we need to hear from you: What you would like to see posted on CNM’s blog? Please offer suggestions and ideas in the comment section. What would make you want to visit and utilize the blog? Thanks so much for your time. We look forward to reading what you have to say!
CNM has recently partnered with Belmont University to offer a Masters in Nonprofit Leadership.
As part of the program, students who are already employed by organizations that are members of the Center for Nonprofit Management will be eligible for discounted tuition. Belmont will contribute 25 percent of the total tuition, leaving the student and his or her agency to split the remaining seventy-five percent of the cost.
The Master of Nonprofit Leadership will be designed to build skills and knowledge for practical application in the nonprofit workplace. Students completing the program will develop leadership potential and explore leadership styles and models. As organizational leaders, graduates will acquire tools for observation, analysis, synthesis and dialogue.
A 30-credit hour program, the Master of Nonprofit Leadership is designed for completion part-time in 24 months, assuming two classes per semester. Courses will be completed in an eight-week format that requires three weekends (Friday evenings and all day Saturday) during the eight weeks. For more information on the program or admissions, call Dr. Trevor Hutchins at Belmont University at 615-460-6232, or attend the informational session on April 1 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at CNM.
