Celebration of Cultures Showcases Nashville Diversity

This weekend, Scarritt-Bennett and Metro Parks held their annual Celebrations of Cultures festival. The Tennessean reports on this unique event in yesterday’s paper:

The world came to Centennial Park in Nashville on Saturday.

Hundreds attended the Celebration of Cultures, a daylong event showcasing the city’s growing diversity through music, activities, food, art and exhibitions.

Showing one’s own diversity was key for exhibitors in the Villages section, which introduced aspects of 12 countries.

As a recording played traditional Andean music of flutes and recorders, Juan Canedo pointed out different cities and regions with Bolivia. “We want to show the diversity within our own country but also the diversity within our communities in Nashville,” he said. “We are reaching out to our own Hispanic community in Nashville because of its diversity.”

Scarritt-Bennett is nominated for the Team Building Award at Salute to Excellence 2008 for this event.
