Volunteers Needed for Sports 4 All’s First Sport Support Equipment Event

We are seeking volunteers to help with set up and tear down, pricing and working the event.

The Sport Support Equipment Event is a community and fundraising event where attendees can purchase sports equipment for an extremely low price and support a local non-profit. Items that will be available include: soccer balls, basketballs, golf balls and clubs, baseball/softball equipment and balls, ski/snowboard equipment and clothing, tennis rackets, and hockey equipment and clothing, just to name a few. Proceeds from the Sport Support Equipment Event will benefit S4AF’s mission and programs. S4AF’s mission: to improve the quality of life of individuals by providing funding, equipment, programming and education to enable full participation in sports and recreational activities. The foundation will also be accepting donations of new and gently used sports equipment and clothing.

Nashville Zoo Offers Specialized Training for Volunteers

A great opportunity for prospective volunteers is being offered by the Nashville Zoo:

Those interested in being Nashville Zoo ambassadors can learn about volunteering as a docent on Saturday.

Docents are specialized volunteers who teach guests about the zoo’s animals as well as conservation and wildlife issues using live animals, fossils and other hands-on materials. The zoo will have a docent information session at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Croft Center.

Docents must volunteer at least 75 hours per year, pay a one-time training session fee of $55, and attend the training series beginning Jan. 25.

“The main focus of the program is getting zoo guests excited about conservation and our natural world,” said Chris Kline, the zoo’s manager of onsite interpretation.

“The best feedback is seeing children’s faces light up when they see a snake, a tiger skull or an ostrich egg during a docent presentation.”

CNM Hosts “Fountain of Youth” Workshop

Yesterday, CNM hosted a free, interactive workshop entitled The Fountain of Youth: Communicating with the Next Generation. Sam Davidson and Stephen Moseley, founders of CoolPeopleCare.org, shared ideas and tips on how your nonprofit can attract and retain young volunteers, donors and supporters.
